Utility Description

Every company, developing ActiveX components and controls, often meets need to remove COM object registration data from the registry, but unregistering component itself doesn't work for some reasons. All that is left – to remove registration data manually or use some special tool to find and delete information about broken COM references in the registry.

RegComCleaner searches places, where Windows keeps data about the ActiveX components, checking for matching some string (i.e. component name) and allows deleting of the registry keys, in which this string was found. The places, where RegComCleaner tries to find this string are: HKCR\Clsid, HKCR\TypeLib, HKCR\AppID, HKCR\Interface and the HKCR itself. In HKCR\Clsid, HKCR\TypeLib, HKCR\AppID, HKCR\Interface search is recursive (i.e. all subkeys and subkeys of subkeys etc are watched for string), but search in the root of HKCR is non-recursive.

When search is done you can choose what keys should be deleted and what should be left. The practice of using RegComCleaner in our company shows that this is the most convenient way to remove registration data of the ActiveX controls.
